The blue glass beads that form the base of a traditional nazar boncuğu are part of an ancient history of jewellery, that stretches back to the 16th Century BC. For 3000 years the design has remained almost unaltered, even as the traditional bead makers were exiled from cities thanks to the smoke from their furnaces.
